Fibre Per Serving Calculator
Add your ingredients and servings for the fibre in one portion.
Raw and cooked foods are separate records. Pick the state you are putting in the recipe.
Search for your ingredients above, one at a time, then set the amount of each.
The whole recipe is divided by this number.
No figures yet
- Search for an ingredient above and pick the raw or cooked version you are using.
- Set how much of it goes in, in grams or another unit.
- Set how many servings the recipe makes, and the figures appear here.
Nothing is worked out until at least one ingredient is added, so you never see a made up number.
Reference and detail
AOAC, not the older NSP figures
Current UK data reports fibre by the AOAC method, which is also what labels use. Older British tables published NSP values, which are lower for the same food, so figures from the two systems should never be mixed.
Not every food has a value
Where fibre has not been measured for an ingredient, it is marked as having no published figure and left out of the total rather than counted as zero, and the result says when that has happened.
How these figures are worked out
Values come from the official UK food composition dataset published on GOV.UK, used unchanged. Figures are estimates based on that data and the ingredients and quantities you enter, and real values vary between products, brands and preparation methods. Read the full method.
Questions and answers
Questions about fibre in a recipe
How is fibre measured in these figures?
By the AOAC method, which is the measure current UK food composition data reports and the one used on labels. Older British tables used NSP values, which run lower for the same food, so the two are not interchangeable.
Why is fibre missing for some ingredients?
Because the dataset does not measure it for every food. Where a value has not been published, the figure is marked as having no published figure and left out of the total, so a recipe total covering only some ingredients is flagged rather than presented as complete.
Which ingredients raise the fibre in a dish?
Wholegrains, pulses, vegetables, fruit, nuts and seeds carry fibre; meat, fish, dairy, eggs and oils carry none. The contributor list under the result names the ingredients supplying it in your recipe.
